Recently, I installed Linux Mint. I wanted to share my process with others, because the process can be quite extensive for first-timers.

Step 1: Backup all of your data

Navigate to your file explorer, check for “This PC” and calculate how much GB it will take to backup all of your files. These are all the files, so if you do not want everything to be stored calculate it within This PC
Insert the flash drive into the USB Port. Then do the following:

Open File Explorer

- Locate the USB drive in the left panel under This PC.
- Right-click on the USB drive and select Format.

Choose the following settings:
- File System: NTFS (if you're dealing with large files over 4GB; otherwise, FAT32 is fine).
- Allocation unit size: Default.
- Quick Format: Check this box.
- Click Start to format the drive.

16:Te44,

In my 2024 summer internship, I worked as a Product Management High Tech Machine Learning Intern. That’s a lot of words combined into one role, but I was primarily applying my developing knowledge to help create a new product.

The project was an end-to-end machine learning process, which seemed slightly daunting at first. There was plenty to learn about Revenue Management (RM) and how I could apply my programming knowledge to this area. I contributed to a Deal Optimization project within the Quote, Price, Creation area to serve as an offering to customers. My internship occurred over 10 weeks, here are some of the key points I learned:

Ask for help when appropriate. My project dealt with working independently with my manager and then pitching my work to the rest of the high-tech section of the company. I had daily meetings with my manager to set the objectives for the following day and measure our progress for the current day. I didn’t want to bother my manager constantly with pings, so I met with my manager towards the middle of the workday.
Connect with other interns. From the start of the internship, I had weekly check-in meetings with the head of the internship program and other interns. I didn’t reach out to other interns until the third week of my ten-week internship. When I finally did, I realized we had much more in common than I had originally thought.
Plan. When starting any project, related to ML or not, it is important to have a detailed plan to make sure the outcome is achieved. When it comes to data, analysis, and automation, information might be missing at some steps. It is a good idea to consult engineers and members from a non-technical background when developing a plan. My manager helped connect me with other engineers at the company to look to for assistance. He was also willing to alter the plan based on my inputs and conversations with other engineers, which helped me feel valued in the company.
Explain your work. After I completed my project development, it was time to present my work to the company. Knowing your audience is a key aspect when presenting because people from a non-technical background who want to provide their input will need to understand technical jargon.
Documentation. Most universities do not teach software such as Jira and Confluence. These are the essentials in any tech company, and whenever other engineers need to edit and continue work, they will refer to your documentation. Adding comments within your coding files is also helpful.

Here is a list of the technologies I learned/used throughout the internship:

1. Amazon Web Services (EC2)
2. Jenkins
3. Jupyter Notebooks
4. Polars
5. Pandas
6. Jira
7. Confluence

Each internship is unique. Some companies like their interns to work together. Some interns work together. It is all about finding what is best for oneself.

My internship was entirely remote and I was extremely grateful for that, but there are pros and cons to working in-person versus online. I also find that some companies have a strict work-life balance while others make your work around their schedule.

I applied to around 700+ internships from August 2023 — May 2024, and I am grateful that I got a chance with Model N.

Thank you for checking out my post!
